Civil Rights

One ought to be able to claim as civil rights, those minimal things without which it is impossible to develop ones capabilities and to live life as human beings.

People with psychiatric disabilities are entitled to the same rights and freedoms as all Americans and should be empowered with the same opportunities as their neighbor.

CASRA believes everyone, regardless of differences or disability, should have the:

  • Right to self-determination
  • Right to freedom of thought
  • Right to receive services free of coercion or force
  • Right to be free from the use of physical and chemical restraints
  • Right to decent and affordable housing
  • Right to reasonable accommodations in housing, education, and employment

The destiny of human rights is in the hands of all our citizens in all our communities
~ Eleanor Roosevelt
