You Can TRUST Me...Right? |
Handout(s): |
When we work in a helping profession, there are a few basic assumptions that come with the job. Individuals will tell us all the facts about their lives we need to know to treat them with dignity and care. Staff will maintain professional and compassionate partnerships with consumers and are worthy to know all the intimate, and often painful, details of what has the caused the person in front of you to seek help. All of this is anchored on trust, but what leads to this trust being built? This workshop will lean into the idea of trust in the working relationship and what is needed for a true partnership towards recovery. The presentation will demonstrate integration of the concepts by sharing an overview of the TRUST mobile response program in Santa Clara County. |
1. Attendees will consider three (3) factors that aid in therapeutic rapport building |

Creating Environments and a Culture of Peace |
Handout(s): |
In response to much of the discord observed in agency's community and culture, the WCCS Peer Programs determined to explore ways to develop connections and build hope for their community. Since one of the four core tasks of Peer Support is “Moving Toward” what we want, rather than moving away from what we don’t, they decided to focus on Creating Environments and a Culture of Peace. This led to a five month initiative where new ways of thinking and developing better self awareness were sought in order to interact in more meaningful, and constructive ways with those whom we encountered in our work and ourpersonal lives. This culminated in a community-wide presentation on the astonishing outcomes that were experienced from the discussions and efforts.
The presentation will include a description of the process along with a panel of folks who experienced the transformation. They will share their stories ofhow they used the concepts we developed and how they witnessed it transforming lives and the environments in which they work and live. |

Practicing Active Hope: Going through the Difficulties and Blessings of Organizational Work - AM |
Handout(s): |
Hope is created and sustained in both individuals and groups through the use of ritual—the intentional time we take to remember what’s important to us as we go through change in our lives. As important as rituals are, most of us don’t have much experience designing them. This session will give us the opportunity to share stories of the rituals that have been important to us in our lives. Then, after describing the typical steps in ritual, Bruce will break us into small groups, offer three different situations that can benefit from ritual, and see what each group comes up with. By practicing ritual design, and hearing the creative solutions from other groups, we’ll walk away with an increased confidence in both designing rituals and deepening our commitment to that important use of our time in the busy life of organizations. |
